GUIDE
AI car photos: what dealers can and can't do
AI can turn a driveway snapshot into a listing-grade image. Used well, it saves hours and lifts every advert. Used badly, it misdescribes the car. Here's where the line sits — and why staying on the right side of it sells more cars.
What AI enhancement is good at
- Cleaning up the setting: removing a cluttered background, a wheelie bin or a neighbouring car so the vehicle is the subject.
- Evening out light and colour so the paint reads the way it does in person.
- Sharpening and straightening phone photos so panels, wheels and trim are easy to judge.
- Placing the car in a studio-style setting — as long as the car itself is untouched and the image is labelled as enhanced.
Where the line is
- Never remove or soften damage. A scuff edited out of a photo is a misdescribed car, whatever tool did the editing.
- Never change the car's colour, wheels, badges or trim. The vehicle in the photo must be the vehicle on the forecourt.
- Never invent angles or views you didn't photograph. A generated rear three-quarter of a car you only shot from the front is fabrication, not enhancement.
- Never let a label do the hiding. If an image is enhanced, say so clearly — buyers who feel deceived don't complain, they just leave.
Why honesty is the better strategy
- Marketplaces and regulators increasingly expect accurate imagery; the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations already cover misleading photos.
- Buyers who see honest condition photos arrive at viewings pre-sold. Surprise defects kill deals at the kerb.
- A consistent, labelled style becomes a brand signal: buyers learn that your listings show the real car.
How Rolling Shot handles it
Every Rolling Shot edit starts from your real photographs. The vehicle's identity, colour and visible condition are preserved; enhanced settings are labelled as enhanced, and original photos stay available for comparison before anything is approved. Generated scenes are always disclosed — nothing is presented as footage that was never filmed.
